Was die Rotbuche weiß

Kommt und lebt an meiner Ader!

Denn mein‘ Ecker ernährt den Nager,

An meiner Wurzel haust der Fuchs,

Und mein Blätterdach bietet Schutz.

Gewiss ist mein Nachsommer,

So faucht im Kamin mein stetig‘ Ster.

Ein ewig‘ Quell soll meine Gattung sein,

Denn im Walde wächst mein grün‘ Kindlein.

Pflanz mich selbstlos und geschwind,

Erfreut sich das Zukunft Menschenkind.

Wirst du mein Ruhm nicht mehr erleben.

Sorg‘ ich bereits für des Klimas Segen.
